Families often begin searching for care while already under pressure. This guide focuses on the practical decisions that help clarify the role, responsibilities and next step.

Choose support around the family's hardest period

Daytime support may help with feeding routines, changing, soothing, baby laundry and giving parents time to rest. Night support focuses on agreed overnight baby-care tasks and may be useful when interrupted sleep is the main challenge.

Describe the baby's routine clearly

Share the baby's age, feeding approach, current sleep pattern, parent instructions and any experience you prefer in a caregiver. Avoid asking a non-clinical caregiver to diagnose symptoms or make medical decisions.

Set safe and specific expectations

Agree who is responsible for feeds, sterilising equipment, changing, settling, laundry and handovers to parents. Any fever, breathing concern, feeding difficulty or unusual symptom should be discussed promptly with the paediatrician.
